The Challenge
-
Testing ran from pre-Alpha through to release, with Universally Speaking providing FQA, CQA and LQA services across the project.
-
Multiple platforms and devices needed support, alongside new testing software and processes introduced by the client partway through.
-
Bandai's specific CQA requirements needed tailoring to VR, and the project called for analytics data based on live data the game itself generated.
Our Solution
The team gave the client weekly feedback on setbacks and improvements from the previous build, which went on to influence certain design decisions. Daily feedback was requested with an emphasis on limiting duplicates, and rotating new members onto the team kept a fresh perspective on the title.
Cross-department collaboration between FQA, CQA and LQA gave each team a high level of knowledge of the title, with all gaps covered. FQA providing save data to LQA, for example, saved significant time and enabled swift completion of tasks - achieved through constant communication both internally and with the client.
Testing across multiple platforms and devices (PCVR, PSVR and Meta Quest) required the team to train on all required platforms so they could swap rapidly and test efficiently. New skills were picked up along the way, including use of the photosensitivity tool, collating and analysing the title's live data, and using alternative software for test runs outside USS's standard approach.
Learning Bandai's PC CQA process and adapting it for VR required the team to work through documentation in depth and call out specific changes needed. These were communicated to the client and implemented with approval, laying the groundwork for future Bandai VR projects.
The Outcome
The title shipped successfully with high ratings - 9/10 on Steam, 4.5/5 on Meta.
301 launch blockers were reported and fixed over the course of the three-year project.
Feedback from the team was taken on board and implemented into the title, with all requested documentation and KPIs provided to the client before every set deadline.
Multiple new skills were developed and perfected by the team, ready for future use.

Hollow Knight: Silksong
When a sequel's this anticipated and this secretive, how did Universally Speaking localise six languages for a simultaneous global launch without ever seeing the game?
Little Nightmares VR: Altered Echoes
Little Nightmares is unsettling enough on a screen. Put a headset on and the scares get personal. When Altered Echoes brought the series into VR, Universally Speaking had to make sure the horror held up.
Fireside Feelings
For Indie titles, budgets are often small and bang for buck is king, so how did Universally Speaking partner with The CoLab to bring AAA quality on an Indie budget for their debut title, Fireside Feelings?
