Returning from Brighton and the Develop Conference
This week saw our Program Manager, Simon Mitton, making the journey down to Brighton for the Develop Conference as part of the Universally Speaking team for the first time. This is what he had to say about it:
“It was my first time attending this annual gathering of the UK games industry, and it was quite unlike others conferences I have attended in the past.
It is a friendly, laid back vibe, and most of the people I spoke to referred to the event in the same way – as a chance to catch up with friends without the overarching need to “sell sell sell”, or be seen to be outdoing competitors.
Of course, for us at Universally Speaking, many of these old friends are also clients, so it is a great opportunity for us to cover both bases, and mix in a little business alongside the chat.
The Industry Excellence awards on Wednesday evening are a fantastic celebration of the range of creativity and talents we have in the industry here in the UK. On a personal level, the disappointment of our 7th nomination in 8 years coming up short of victory again was tempered by getting to see the presentation of a Development Legend award to Tim and Chris Stamper, founders of Ultimate Play The Game, and Rare. As someone who first played computer games on a ZX Spectrum in 1983, seeing Tim collect the award was like being in the presence of royalty.
It was a fitting end to an evening honouring the best and brightest of the UK games industry; an industry that has grown since the days of Jet Pac to be worth £3.9bn (source: Ukie), and in which over half of the population actively participates (source: Newzoo). Everyone at Universally Speaking is excited to be a part of such a vibrant, relevant and creative success story, and we’re already looking forward to catching up with friends and colleagues at the next event.”
Universally Speaking attending Gamescom 2015
We are very excited to confirm we will be attending Gamescom in Cologne next month, between August 5th and 7th.
Gamescom is one of those shows in the events calendar you simply can’t miss. It has the perfect mix of business and pleasure, offering you the chance to have those all important business meetings while sneaking some time to take a look at the entertainment area and try the latest games.
Last year we were part of the 50+ strong delegation surrounded by a British beach setting. This year will see us at the UKIE stand once again, which will feature a British Royalty theme and even a “Royal Box”.
This follows the announcement of the partnership between UKIE and the Federal Association of Interactive Entertainment Software, whereby the United Kingdom is the partner country for Gamescom: http://ukie.org.uk/event/2015/08/05/right-royal-stand-gamescom-2015
To find out more about this right royal stand, make sure you visit us in Hall 3.2, stand #D011g-C010g.
If you want to learn about our localisation, audio and QA processes, you can get in touch via email@example.com. Our diaries are fillip up so be sure to reach out and reserve a slot with us; you will receive a warm welcome at our Royal Stand.
We look forward to seeing you in Cologne between August 5th and 7th!
Develop Awards – finalists once again
July will see the crème de la crème of videogames congregating once again in Brighton for the amazing Develop Industry Excellence Awards 2015.
This will take place at the Hilton Metropole Hotel on July 15th and with over 500 attendees we are sure we will be in excellent company. Not only is the awards night a fun one but being listed amongst the finalists once again will make it a very exciting occasion. While this is not the first time we have been shortlisted, in fact we have been 7 times in the last 8 years, our delight and pride at being recognised once again as one of the top localisation and QA service providers knows no limits.
We feel privileged that we continue to be shortlisted and feel proud to be found amongst such esteemed company.
We wish all finalists the best of luck on the night and we look forward to seeing you all there!
If you want to make sure to catch us, drop us a line on firstname.lastname@example.org.
See you on July 16th!
